This is a continuation of a yearlong artist in residency with Open Doors in a campaign called #iconsofhope.
Open Doors exists to shine a light on religious persecution and give aid to those suffering because of their beliefs. This year I have been illustrating a number of global scenarios where people are horribly persecuted because of their faith.
I want to make clear in do not believe in religious superiority. I’ve seen first hand how believed superiority belittles and dehumanizes others who’s faith journey looks different than theirs. We’ve seen that kind of religious abuse in this country… but that is another conversation for another time.
From @opendoorsusa …..
“Now that the Taliban is in power, it’s virtually impossible to practice faith in #Afghanistan. Anyone who disagrees with the Taliban is now unwelcome. Though Christians in the country have long been forced to keep their faith a secret, the stakes are even higher now. Those who are discovered – or even suspected – risk kidnapping, torture, and even death.
Those who escape are facing the difficult task of finding safe harbor and rebuilding their lives. You can partner with us to help them with emergency relief and long-term care.”
Why I want to do this project is because the faith of these brave women and men illuminates the polarizing absurdity of spirituality in the culture I live in… and their stories invite us to seek the good news of a 𝗟𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝗡𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗕𝗲 𝗘𝘅𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘂𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗱 at the center of our being.
Check out Open Doors to find out more about how you can support the situation happening to spiritual seekers in Afghanistan.
