At the end of the story of the Prodigal Son, Jesus doesn’t say “and please call this the story of the Prodigal Son.” No... we named it that. Out of all the elements going on in this story we choose to name the whole narrative based around our shame.

That’s how strong our shame is. We often confuse the voice of Shame for the voice of God.

Here’s my play on it. I call it the story of the “House of Belonging.” Because the loving Father in this story... (or mother as I play with it... (this is a metaphor story, not a dogma on gender) because this story is inclusive for all! And women can own property in our present day, thank God)... no matter what has happened, always returns to the truth of identity. You are my child. Everything I have is yours. You belong in this house of Love (see the house shaped like a heart?).
